Methods Sixty children treated inpatient diagnosed with primary nephrotic syndrome with renal edema in Department of Pediatrics, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (“our hospital” for short) from October 2015 to June 2017 were selected as subjects. They were divided into control group and treatment group by simple random asignment, with 30 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine treatment and nursing intervention. The treatment group received Chinese herbal (medicine particle prescription in our hospital) foot-bathing treatment for 20 min every day additionally. The course of treatment was 7 days, and both groups were treated for 1 course. Severity of edema, urine volume (24 h), abdominal circumference and the lower limb circumference were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the severity of edema in both groups alleviated, and the degree of reduction in the treatment group was better than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the 24 h urine volume increased in both groups, and the increase in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, abdominal circumference and lower limb circumference in the two groups had no significant difference (P > 0.05). Conclusion Chinese medicine foot-bathing was beneficial to alleviate edema. The therapy is simple and convenient that can be applied in clinical practice and promotion.
