Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of continuous health education on lung function and quality of life in elderly patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods From June 2015 to October 2016, in Department of respiration of Hu′nan People′s Hospital, 98 elderly patients with stable COPD were selected, according to random number table method, they were divided into control group and research group, with 49 cases in each group. The control group was given routine health education, while the research group was given continuous health education on the base of the control group. The forced expiratory volume at the first second (FEV1), maximal mid-expiratory flow curve (MMEF), forced vital capacity (FVC), the ratio of FEV1 and FVC (FEV1%) and quality of life of two groups before discharge and 6 months after discharge were compared and analyzed, the success rate of smoking cessation and the compliance rate of drug were compared between two groups. Results The FEV1, MMEF, FVC, FEV1% and the scores of the somatic function, psychological function, social function, specific module and total scale in the two groups 6 months after discharge were significantly higher than those before discharge (P < 0.05), these in the research group were significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.01). The success rate of smoking cessation and the compliance rate of drug of the research group were significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Continuous health education can significantly improve the lung function of the elderly patients with stable COPD, increase the success rate of smoking cessation and the compliance rate of drug, and improve the life quality of patients significantly.
