Abstract:Objective To investigate the application effect of goal attainment theory in health education for the elderly in hospital. Methods Eighty cases in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University were given to health education with the guidance of goal attainment theory from November 2015 to January 2016. Three questionnaire including health knowledge assessment, health-promoted behavior investigation, degree of satisfaction were used to assess application effect. Results The scores of health knowledge and health-promoted behavior were improved after the application of goal attaining theory in health education, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05); the satisfaction degree was improved, while the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion Application of goal attaining theory to health education for elderly patients in hospital can improve health knowledge of patients, bulid healthy lifestyle and enhance the effect of health education.
