Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of chronic diseases management mode on quality of life of the patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, so as to provide references for effective development of health education of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods A total of 200 patients(≥65 years old) were investigated from May 2011 to April 2012 in Beijing Geriatric Hospital, stratified randomly divided into normal mode group(n=100) and management mode group(n=100), the normal group received routine diagnosis and health education, and the chronic diseases management group received the hospital-community-message unify platform. After 5 years, international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life and urinary retention were compared between the two groups after 5 years of follow-up. Results IPSS of chronic diseases management group was better than the normal mode group, and the difference was statistically significant (Z = 2.031, P < 0.05). The QOL scores in the two groups was less than that befores intervention, and the difference was statistically significant (t = 2.283, P < 0.05; t =3.908, P < 0.05), and the QOL scores of the chronic diseases management group was lower than that of the normal model group, the difference was statistically significant (t = 2.587, P < 0.05). The incidence rate of urinary retention in chronic disease management group was 6%, the incidence rate in normal group was 22%, the incidence rate between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2 = 11.368, P < 0.05). Conclusion Chronic disease management mode is especially important for health management of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, which not only can effectively control symptoms, but also reduce the incidence of urinary retention and improve the quality of life of patients.
