Abstract:The outpatient department procedure is one of the core procedures of hospital administration. The essay made the research that the improvement in the procedure of outpatient department from an angle of industrial engineering. Firstly, based on the procedure analysis method of motion study in the theory of industrial engineering, the author selected the medical process of obstetrics and gynecology, a department receiving the most patients in hospital, as a sample. Through investigation and research, the author found that it took patients many times to queue for paying costs and for a long time to queue inefficiently, significantly reducing the efficiency of treatment. Next, the author asked the subjects questions by using the “5W1H” method, in order to find the way of improving the outpatient procedure, including establishing the information system as integrate bank cards with medical cards, optimizing the layouts of type-B ultrasonic and medical examination, and balancing the distribution of patients receiving treatment based on the line balance theory, etc. In addition, the author used ECRS to cancel, merge, reorder or simple those nodes in the procedure, to save patients′ waiting time, reduce the non-effective actions and enhance patients′ satisfaction. Finally, the writer discussed that applying the industrial engineering theory can make more distributions to hospital administration, and expected to promote service efficiency, to improve service quality and to save the cost under the application of the key techniques of industrial engineering.
