Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical effect of open reduction and locking plate internal fixation and half shoulder joint replacement in the treatment of elderly patients with proximal humeral fractures. Methods The clinical data of 62 elderly patients with proximal humeral fractures treated in Qinghai Provincial People′s Hospital from January 2015 to June 2016 were retrospectively analyzed, 35 cases (observation group) were treated by open reduction and internal fixation with locking plate fixation, and 27 cases (control group) were treated with half shoulder joint replacement. The operation time, blood loss, Constant-Murley score and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups of the operation time, blood loss, Constant-Murley score and postoperative complications (P > 0.05). Conclusion For elderly patients with proximal humeral fractures, both open reduction and locking plate internal fixation and half shoulder joint replacement can achieve satisfactory therapeutic effect in the clinical application, and there are no differences in the postoperative complications, and the safety is high. Therefore both two kinds of surgical procedures are worthy of clinical application.
