Abstract:Objective To observe the correlationship between serum leptin, Th1/Th2 cytokine and symptom severity in obese adult asthma patients, and investigate the pathogenesis of obese adult asthma. Methods From July to December 2016, 100 patients with asthma admitted to the Zhuhai People′s Hospital (“our hospital” for short) were selected as research objects, and they were divided into obese asthma group (50 cases) and non-obese asthma group (50 cases)by BMI. Fifty cases of healthy people at the same time in our hospital for physical examination were selected as control group, and were divided into obese group (25 cases) and non-obese control group (25 cases). Serum leptin, INF-γ and IL-4 were detected using ELISA, as well as did the concurrent pulmonary function and asthma contml test (ACT). The correlationship between serum leptin, INF-γ, IL-4, pulmonary function and ACT was analyzed. Results The serum leptin, IFN-γ and IFN-γ/IL-4 in obese asthma groud were significantly higher than those in other groups (P < 0.05). The leptin levels in obese asthma groud showed a negative correlation with ACT and FEV1%Pred (r= -0.501, -0.384, all P < 0.05), but a positive correlation with IFN-γ and IFN-γ/IL-4 (r= 0.446, 0.423, all P < 0.05), and no correlation with IL-4 (r= -0.189, P > 0.05). Conclusion The serum leptin in obese asthma patients has a higher level and a positive correlation with clinical severity, and probably plays a role in airway hyperresponsiveness by Th1 cytokine mediating.
