Application of PDCA circulation method in improving the quality of the pharmacy management and reducing the drug application error rate

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of PDCA circulation method in improving the quality of the pharmacy management and reducing the drug application error rate. Methods The data in Outpatient Pharmacy of Inner Mongolia People's Hospital without PDCA circulation method from February 2014 to February 2015 were chosen as the control group. The data in Outpatient Pharmacy of the hospital with PDCA circulation method from April 2015 to April 2016 were chosen as the observation group. A total of 25 cases of pharmacists, 2000 kinds of drugs, 100 cases of patients were investigated in this study. The pharmacy management quality score; drug inventory, lack of drugs, error rate of drug batch number management under pharmacy management mode; time of check a single prescription in pharmacy deployment, error rate of dispensing, satisfaction of patients were compared between the two groups. Results The pharmacy management quality scores, including scores of pharmacy environmental management, working comfort, drugs classification, drug preservation methods in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The drug inventory, lack of drugs, error rate of drug batch number management in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The time of check a single prescription in pharmacy deployment, error rate of dispensing in the observation group were shoter or lower than those in the control group, while the satisfaction of patients was higher in the observation group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion PDCA circulation method can improve the quality of the pharmacy management, reduce the error rate of drug use and errors, improve satisfaction of patients, which can be applied in pharmacy management.
