Application and effects of individualized iontophoresis nursing scheme on knee osteoarthritis

Abstract：Objective To observe the effect of individualized iontophoresis nursing scheme in application on knee osteoarthritis. Methods It was a randomized parallel control study. One hundred patents with osteoarthritis hospitalized in Orthopedics Ward of Eye Hospital China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences from January 2015 to June 2016 were selected and divided into control group and observation group by random number table, with 50 cases in each group. All patients were treated by combined therapeutic plan including iontophoresis with herbal decoction. Patients in observation group were treated by individualized nursing scheme which used dynamically adjusted electric current and temperature of decoction in therapy. While participants in control group were managed by conventional nursing scheme with settled current and temperature. Adverse events were recorded to evaluate the safety of two nursing plans. The WOMAC score was collected after therapy as parameter for effect. Results For comparison of WOMAC score within group, patients in both groups were improved in all three subitems (P < 0.05). For comparison of WOMAC between groups, variation of pain and stiffness in observation group were more significant than control group (P < 0.05), while change of physical function was similar in two groups (P > 0.05). For adverse events, incidence rate of blister was not statistically different between two groups (P > 0.05). While incidence rates of erythema and abnormal sensation in observation group were significantly lower than that in control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion In contrast to conventional nursing scheme, the individualized iontophoresis nursing scheme improved the short-term effects on patients with knee osteoarthritis and decrease the adverse events.
